Mr. McConville has over 32 years of experience in credit and finance management. He has served as President and CEO of Beacon Credit Union since 2002 during which time he has a proven track record of growth and profitability. Under Mr. McConville’s leadership Beacon Credit Union has grown to become the largest credit union headquartered in Lynchburg Virginia. Mr. McConville is also involved with many community organizations throughout the area, such as the Boys & Girls Club, CASA, Children’s Miracle Network and God’s Pit Crew to name a few.

Susan Krantz has worked at Beacon Credit Union since 1981. As VP of Operations, her responsibilities cross into many areas within the Credit Union. She provides leadership with compliance to make sure regulations are met, collections in minimizing losses, card services and fraud, vendor and facility management for all seven of our main branches, and procedure administration.
Ms. Krantz is licensed by FCC (Federal Communications Commission) as an Amateur Radio Operator and Volunteer examiner and received the 2001 Credit Union Volunteer of the Year Award. She also works with many community projects including Adopt a Highway and Partnership in Education.

Joe Goude has been with Beacon Credit Union since 2001. Working directly with the branches, Joe oversees management and staff, assists with lending decisions and manages all day to day retail functions.
Focusing on our staff’s relationship with our customers, Mr. Goude works with the branches to make sure every member is provided with exceptional service every time they visit Beacon Credit Union. Implementing our service standards, Mr. Goude provides guidance and leadership to our staff.

Terry W. Hammond Jr. has worked for Beacon Credit Union since 2008. As the Credit Union’s Chief Financial Officer, Mr. Hammond’s responsibilities include accounting and financial regulations. Making sure that funds and expenses are balanced and managed appropriately provides a stable financial ground for Beacon Credit Union to better service our membership.
Mr. Hammond is very active in the financial community. He is a part of the Piedmont Chapter of the Credit Union League and has also been a Rotarian and participated in the Salvation Army Treasury in Martinsville, VA.

Scott Hudson has worked at Beacon Credit Union since 2007. With 30 years of experience in advertising, multimedia, direct sales and business development, Mr. Hudson is responsible for communication with members, employee groups and partner auto dealers in the membership area. By administering over marketing systems and implementing brand management, he works towards developing products and services that are beneficial to Beacon members.
Also managing Beacon’s charity involvement, Mr. Hudson strives to include the credit union in important community functions throughout the year. He is a board member at CASA and a member of the American Marketing Association.

With 23 years prior banking experience, Leslie began work at Beacon Credit Union in 1997. As head of compliance, she ensures that the credit union adheres to all appropriate laws and regulations (state and federal). By reviewing policies, procedures, documents and marketing materials, Mrs. Mehaffey uses her thorough knowledge of all compliance related issues to keep Beacon up to date on changes and new regulations.
Mrs. Mehaffey works with many community projects and organization as well. She is a board member for the Bedford Museum and Genealogical Library, president of General William R. Terry UDC and secretary/ treasurer of Safe Harbor Community Church. She is also a co-founder of the Distant Drums Music Festival and Warm Heads for Pine Ridge.

Adam Carpenter has worked at Beacon Credit Union since 2008. Working to maintain Beacon’s IT infrastructure, Mr. Carpenter is responsible for ensuring security throughout the credit union’s network. Previously a branch manager and mortgage originator for another institution, Mr. Carpenter combines his previous banking experience with his knowledge of computer security and technology to protect the accounts and information of our members.
Mr. Carpenter also works with many community projects throughout the area. CASA and Children’s Miracle Network are some of the organizations that he supports.

Vickie Smith has worked for Beacon Credit Union since 2001. As VP of Human Resources, Mrs. Smith heads the training and development of tellers, financial service representatives and managers. In addition she makes sure all back office staff are continually trained and up to date on work place standards and regulations.
Originally from Charlottesville, Mrs. Smith worked at several financial institutions and credit unions before coming to Beacon Credit Union. She uses her experience and knowledge to make sure our staff is prepared to assist every member each time they visit Beacon Credit Union.
Vice President of Regional Branch Services
Having worked in financial institutions since 1999, Laura M. Shafer began working at Beacon Credit Union in 2006. As an executive member of the retail department, Mrs. Shafer is responsible for working with the branches, mortgage lending and business lending departments to develop and manage sales and service goals. She trains new lenders and managers for Beacon and provides necessary support to branch managers and lenders during day to day operation.
Mrs. Shafer has experience in collections, consumer lending, mortgage lending, loan origination and underwriting. She works closely with the branches to ensure that they are fully dedicated to the financial success of all of Beacon Credit Union’s members.

As Vice President of the Piedmont Region, Mrs. Scearce is responsible for coaching, motivating and supervising her staff at both the Danville branch and Beacon’s office within the Goodyear plant. She is committed to the financial well being of Beacon members throughout Danville and the surrounding areas.
Mrs. Scearce also works closely with employee groups, businesses and dealerships throughout the Piedmont Region, maintaining a sound partnership with the area. She is involved in many different community projects, including The Optimist Club of Danville, Volunteer at the Piedmont Chapter of Credit Unions, Boys and Girls Club of Danville, Gods Pit Crew and Youth and Seniors Ministries at White Oak Worship Center.
