Joining Buena Vista City Schools this morning for a highly energetic 2013 convocation at Parry McCluer High School, Beacon greeted faculty and staff with prizes and encouragement for the coming year.
The Parry McCluer Marching Band sparked off the event with the James Bond theme followed by their school song, while elementary school students performed an adorable rendition of “Everybody wants to be a cat” from the Aristocats.
Dr. John Keeler, the new superintendent of the Buena Vista City Schools introduced speakers and delivered his own words of wisdom for his staff.
Darryl Knick, Chairman of the school board also offered an inspiring speech about the value of change and growth in coming year along with several other speakers who offered their words of encouragement to their fellow “Blues”.
Numerous awards were handed out to teachers and staff, while new faculty members were welcomed with enthusiasm. Keeler highlighted several sports achievements that were celebrated over the past year and thanked everyone who was part of the “renew the blue” repainting of Parry McCluer Middle School. Keeler finalized the event with the advice for everyone to “celebrate something everyday.”
Beacon would like to thank Buena Vista City Schools for inviting us to attend this year’s convocation. We hope that you and all of our community school systems enjoy a fantastic 2013-14 school year.
