Hugh E Wills passes away at 93...

Hugh WillsA valuable member of the credit union community and a beloved member of the Beacon family has just passed away. Hugh E. Wills, who was the first acting manager of Virginia League Central Credit Union (now Beacon), passed away at 93 years old. Wills was instrumental in recruiting many of our employee groups throughout the state of Virginia and is the namesake to one of the three Scholarships that Beacon gives to area high school students each year.

He will be missed and we would like to send our condolences to his family and friends.

A special visit from a CMN Champion...

hunterThe Beacon staff recently received a visit from a very special guest. Accompanying Children's Miracle Network's Jack Whistler, 14 year old Hunter is one of the Miracle Kids that CMN helps to receive treatment for his medical conditions.

Hunter suffers from Ehlers Danlos syndrome (connective tissue disorder), ocular albinism (which affects his vision), severe scoliosis, asthma and mitral valve (heart) insufficiency. With the help of CMN Hospitals, Hunter's family is able to afford the expensive medical help needed to manage his conditions.

Hunter is also Children's Miracle Network's State Champion for Virginia because of the courage and inspiration that he beholds despite his illnesses. (click here for more information about CMN Champions)

Excited to meet Hunter, Beacon's staff asked him questions about his hobbies and goals. One of Hunter's goals was to collect all fifty state coins. After the employee meeting, our Forest Road branch decided to give Hunter a hand with his collection. With the help of Dave Durbin, owner of Kerr Tire, who happily supplied the remaining quarters and a map to glue them to, Hunter's collection was quickly completed. Hunter stopped by the Forest road branch and was surprised by the remaining coins for his collection glued to a United States map provided Mr. Durbin.

hunter with tellersHunter was excited to receive his new coins. When asked if he knew all the state capitals yet, he said no, but his mom added that he could name the Children's Miracle Network Champions from all fifty states.

Hunter still has a long journey ahead of him, but he is very optimistic.
