First and foremost, be wary of any emails, phone call or texts requesting personal information. If an institution that you do business with contacts you, they will already have your information. Never give out your social security number, pin numbers or other personal information to people who have contacted you.
In addition to this precaution, with Target's current issues, they will be notifying customers of the breach through email. Unfortunately, scammers follow the news also. Be wary of "phony" emails that appear to be from the Target corporation. The email may look legitimate, but may be someone trying to acquire your bank account information. Just remember, if any emails request personal or financial information, they are more than likely a scam.
