With the summer winding down, school is just around the corner and Beacon Credit Union joined Buena Vista schools for their 2012 Convocation.
Held at Perry McClure high school, on August 13th, this year’s event offered a wide array of excellent speakers and recognition to new and returning teachers and staff of the Buena Vista school system.
Showing our support for the schools, we talked to numerous individuals about the benefits of joining Beacon Credit Union, answered questions about how credit unions work and handed out fun prizes.
The convocation’s theme was the power of the individual to make a difference. With moving speeches by faculty members and personnel of the school system, the event demonstrated the passion that these teachers have for their students’ futures. A riveting discussion by Mark Wheeler, Director of School Counseling, on the great quality of the Buena Vista school system moved the audience to a standing ovation.
The last speaker of the day was Dr. Jeff Perry, Superintendent of Wise County. Perry used various video clips and slides to show the teachers and faculty the ways in which even the smallest detail can impact the children they teach. From the story about a man who carried his paraplegic son through a triathlon to the personal story that he relayed about a troubled boy who he mentored while he was teaching, Perry kept the audience motivated and enthralled.
The Buena Vista convocation was an inspirational and moving start to the new school year and Beacon was proud to be involved in this annual event.
