Shift your gears and strap on your helmets for “Make it Home” with Beacon Credit Union. In this episode, Beacon joins the YMCA of Central Virginia for the 12th Annual Storming of Thunder Ridge. With 854 riders from 26 states, this year's event was a wonderful success and a day filled with endorphins, excitement and surprising announcements.

Intrepid cyclists climbed their choice of 27, 45, 49, 75 or 100 miles of the Blue Ridge Parkway, all while the proceeds benefited the YMCA's Power Scholars Program. The Power Scholars Program empowers kids with literacy tools, STEM activities and enrichment programs in a caring environment led by certified teachers.

In addition, this year's event unveiled a special dedication. Going forward, the Storming of Thunder Ridge ride will be known as "Storming of Thunder Ridge, The John Bell Memorial Ride." Dr. John Howard Bell was a gifted Cardio-Thoracic Surgeon in Lynchburg, who was killed in a cycling accident in 2007.
